1987

Select Comfort is founded, making better sleep more accessible for everyone.

1992

We open our first retail store, bringing personalized sleep solutions directly to customers.

2000

Home delivery and professional setup services are introduced, making it easier than ever to experience better sleep.

2010

The DualTemp™ layer debuts, allowing sleepers to stay up to 35% cooler or warmer**, establishing our leadership in temperature innovation.

2014

SleepIQ® technology is unveiled at CES, offering personalized sleep insights to help users achieve their best rest.

2017

Select Comfort becomes Sleep Number. We launch the first mattress with built-in SleepIQ® technology, reinforcing our role as the industry’s leading sleep innovator.

2018

We partner with the NFL, providing players with sleep data and insights to enhance performance and recovery.

2020

A collaboration with Mayo Clinic is announced to advance sleep science and improve healthcare outcomes.

2022

The Climate360® smart bed is introduced. We also begin a multi-year research partnership with the American Cancer Society, including the donation of Sleep Number beds to Hope Lodges nationwide.

2024

We launch the ClimateCool™ smart bed, featuring new, scientifically backed temperature programs developed in collaboration with Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine.

2025

We presented research from more than 9,100 sleep sessions at the American Academy of Sleep Medicine's 2025 annual meeting showing our how built-in temperature programs improve sleep, especially for women.

Sustainable sleep driven by purpose and innovation

We consider the impact of our products on the environment and the communities we serve, leveraging our vertically integrated operating model to develop sustainable solutions that reduce waste.

Recycle

We’ve focused our sustainability efforts on responsible manufacturing and waste reduction. Working with our CertiPUR-US® certified foam suppliers, we help reduce production waste by repurposing scrap foam into recycled rebond materials used in products like carpet padding. Since 2022, we’ve also donated durable foam to Hope Haven to help build more comfortable wheelchairs.

Reduction

Sleep Number is committed to reducing waste and preserving landfill space. In 2024, the company generated over 9,000 tons of recycled and trash materials across manufacturing and distribution operations, a reduction of almost 3,000 tons from 2023, with major decreases in bases, cardboard, pallets and trash.
