With lots of ambition and heart, she’s making a difference in and outside of Sleep Number

"I met Jacob, my now husband, through an internship right out of college. Fast forward five years, it’s 2020 and I’m interviewing with Sleep Number…the same day I’m marrying Jacob! With Jacob being from Ohio and me being from Tennessee, we knew we wanted a change of scenery. We decided to settle down and buy a house in Dallas, for us and our two dogs. I’m a big fan of the sunshine and warm weather, so I love it here. Although, I’m very close with my family and travel back to see them quite a bit. My parents are truly the best. They instilled the value of hard work and the importance of having a big heart in me. My sister and I are lucky to have them as role models and to have each other. After butting heads for many years growing up, my sister and I are now the best long-distance friends.

My background was in chemical engineering until I joined Sleep Number as a Senior Production Manager. It was a change of pace, but I was drawn to the business and the people here. Right away, I spent two weeks in Irmo, SC for onboarding and I remember walking the floor there, meeting the team, feeling the culture and seeing how much heart goes into fulfilling our purpose. About a year ago, I had the opportunity to pivot again in my career as I joined a new role at Sleep Number. I shifted my focus to problem solving what happens to our product at the end of its lifecycle, with a heavy prioritization on sustainability and cost reduction.

Around the same time I took on a new role, I also became really involved with WithIt, a network for women in the home & furnishings industry. I formed an amazing professional network with the many great women I met there, including my mentor who really pushed me to get out of my comfort zone and build my confidence. As I became a more integrated member, I was invited to be a part of a panel they were hosting, helped organize galas and lead committees. Then, in January I was nominated for a WOW award and in March, Bedtime reached out for an interview about my work at Sleep Number. It’s been such a cool experience to be involved in a professional organization like WithIt. I was inspired to branch out and join a network like this because all the women I look up to at Sleep Number also get involved outside of their day to day.

Right now, outside of work I am busy spending time with my family, volunteering as a youth group leader at my church, dedicating time to my work with WithIt and going back to school to achieve my MBA. Getting my MBA is something I’ve really been wanting to do, and, with the help of Sleep Number’s tuition reimbursement program, I’m able to make it happen. I’m hoping to gain better financial acumen and consumer experience to assist with projects at work like Fit For Growth.
